Want to hunt hogs with my TC contnder with a .223. But as it is a single shot what would you suggest as a back-up gun? Hogs would be 200 to 300 pounds.

44mag if you don't reload 45 Colt if you do. If your inclined bigger is better such as 454 and up.

Yeah i would agree with what has been said so far. I hear a lot about guys carrying 9 mms but to me that seems more about the convenience of already having it than a "suggested" back up gun.

there is a reason they call feral hogs the "poor mans grizzly". You need to keep in mind that they can do some serious damage if things go wrong.

And they get a bit agitated when wounded -- imagine that! LOL! I always carry a back-up piece no matter what. You just never know....

I know growing up the back up was typically a shotgun with buckshot. Looks like it may be time to get a .44 mag. May just be easier to go by a ham, LOL.
