Just get a larger caliber barrel for your Contender and you won't need a back-up. Make the first shot count.

You know better than that......we could never justify another gun or barrel if we used that logic!

Have the 45LC but still must a hair off and a really pissed off hog could ruin your day. Maybe a Redhawk, LOL.

223 wouldn't be my first choice for hogs. But any 44/45 would do well within reason. They aren't bullet proof by any means but they can take a hit from a much bigger gun than a 223 and look unhit. I've hit them with 225 grain .375 caliber bullets at 2600 fps from one of my handguns and that pig still covered 130 yards with lungs blown out at the impact point and other "internals" falling out along the way. Just my opinion but go after hogs with something that small is sort of asking for trouble when it comes to losing/having to track game a long way. Typically, they are always moving and can make a difficult target, especially when they are bunched up and you are having to follow one around in a scope waiting for one to get clear for a shot. 223s don't give you a lot of room for error.......

I have to also agree with wapitirod....and add that one of the calibers mentioned would be a better pig gun and use the .223 on coyote and varmints. Just my thoughts.
