biggest critter I've taken with a handgun was only about 700lbs and it was a bull elk. I've only taken one critter over 1000 and it was a 1800lb aisian water buff with a 458 Lott.

Me also. However I did have to shoot a big ol' ranch horse -probably 1200 pounds or so - for a rancher (poor horse had a broken leg and it was just dangling, it was in South Park, middle of winter, 2 to 3 feet of snow and below zero temps even in the day); used my .375 JDJ and then later shot six or eight coyotes off the carcass.
I know this doesn't really count, though.
Franchise, you got it over on me on this one.

The Camero w/ a 1911 will take top prize. Several thousand pounds & disabled a drunk guy! Great shooting H2Obug. The largest animal I've taken w/ a handgun was one of our Angus herd bulls. Another bull broke his back left leg fighting. The bull was every bit of 1,900 - 2,000 pounds. Head shot w/ 376 Steyr put him out of his misery.

My Eland was over 1200 pounds, I can't figure out how to post a pic is this forum, but it's in My Albums on the bragging board. Taken with a Ruger .480 Super Redhawk, 355 grain Reeds hard cast at 48 yards.
