Anybody shooting .25-06? What bullets/powder are you using and how do they perform on game?

I've had a 15" Encore barrel for a while and finally took it out today. The only load I tried (110 gr Accubond over RL19 @ 2530 fps) grouped a hair over 1" at 100 yards. Seems like a great round. Mild recoil, flat shooting and accurate.

It is awesome in a long gun, but I have not shot it in an encore...

For deer and smaller maybe that 100 grain ballistic tip would be the ticket

I shot 100gr NBT's in my 257 Roberts and the 257 Roberts AI-- I would think the 25-06 would do well with them too.

I thought they were the perfect size for deer down to PD's

I ran 87 grain Sierra HPs out of my 700 Classic 250 Ackley and they were a groundhogs nightmare come true.

I'd try them in the Encore. How's it twisted ?

My barrel wouldn't run 120 Nosler Solid Base boolits.

I use Rl-19 and a 100 gr NBT. I've taken deer and a wild hog with mine. It works great on deer but would use something bigger on hogs. The hog I took ran off at the shot and had to track it through the brush and finish it off with another shot. I don't like tracking wounded hogs!

Thanks for the info guys, keep it coming! With the 1:10 twist I decided to try a lighter/shorter bullet today. I loaded 100 gr Partitions over RL19 at 2600 fps. The first 3 shots were under 1" at 100 yards. Shots 4 and 5 moved a full inch to the right but the holes overlapped each other. I'm assuming its from the barrel warming up.

I only had 10 rounds loaded up to test so after running a few over the chrony I tried a couple at longer range. There is a steel plate up a steep hill at 313 yards so I set up my video camera to see where the shots would impact. I held high guessing that I would have a 16-19" drop. After I got home I watched the video and both shots were very close to my point of aim. I held too high and missed the plate though. Next time I'll hold on the top edge of the plate. Thats the farthest I have shot a handgun so far.
