Another Bad Move By A Gun Company
Today I read in the Outdoor Wire that another company has tripped up and let the marketing folks rile the masses. HS-Precision it seems has used a recommendation on the back cover of their catalog by someone of rather dubious distinction. Remember Lon Horiuchi, he’s the FBI sniper that shot Vicki Weaver at Ruby Ridge. Yep you got it — HS-Precision is using his recommendation in their catalog. So far it seems to be the “Zumbo Effect” all over again. According to the wire, the company has received quite a lot of emails from unhappy customers.
Also like the Zumbo incident and the Cooper Rifles incident, I suspect this will blow over fairly quickly. They’ll fire the person who let this happen and in a month or two everyone will be buying HS products again. Two things strike me with these events. One, like the title of the column in the Outdoor Wire, “What Were They Thinking?” and two why do Americans seem to forget so quickly when we are wronged. 9/11 barely has notice of anything other than the day after the 10th. Zumbo is back with TV shows, albeit a new-found-love of AR’s. Dan Cooper has been fired but that will probably change once the flames are out and the dust has settled. If he doesn’t own a gun anymore maybe Obama will give him a cabinet position. On the first preponderance, I suspect HS hired some twenty-something with a marketing degree and tasked him/her with putting together the catalog and well now you have another Zumbo event taking place. The good news for Cooper Rifles is that this will probably take some of the heat off of them but I suspect most have already forgotten about it.
The flip side of this is that perhaps there will be a few more people who become educated about the heavy-handed ATF/FBI fiasco that took place under Janet Reno’s watchful eye. Remember her, the Attorney General under the last Democratic President who also has the Waco, and Elian Gonzales incidents to her discredit. Looking at how Obamba’s cabinet is shaping up I wonder what we have to look forward to this time around. We already know we’re hated from the top down.
Comments are off for this postFor Comic Relief We Still Have PETA
You have to wonder about the folks that PETA gets hold of. In a shocking move (does anything about PETA actually shock us anymore), a PETA intern named Jennifer Thornburg legally changed her name to “CutoutDissection.com.” She says that she now goes by her nickname, “Cutout.”
I’ll also have to classify this post manually in the stupid category.

Texas Town Arms Some Teachers & Staff
Will wonders never cease. A small Texas school district in Wilbarger County, northwest of Ft. Worth, has agreed to let some teachers and staff carry concealed handguns to protect their school, which is reported to be a 30-minute drive from the sheriff’s office. Already the anti’s are screaming doomsday but I say it’s very unlikely that they’ll have any sort of problems. I love Texas.

The Atlanta airport administration has decided to spit on a new Georgia state law and continue a ban on guns in the public, non-sterile areas of its airport.
How does this effect gun owners?
Because the airport is asking the TSA to setup a nationwide regulation banning guns on airport property, including the public, non-sterile areas!!!
No more leaving a gun in your car while you catch a flight. No more carrying a gun in parking lots or on public sidewalks at airports. No more having a gun in your car as you drive to the airport to pick someone up or drop them off.
We must contact the TSA and the President and Vice President and ask them to keep the U.S. Government from implementing such a ban!

SUBJECT: Leave state law alone on lawful gun carry in airports!
Dear President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and TSA Administrator Hawley:
I am concerned that big city officials from Atlanta and elements of the anti-gun movement are moving to misuse federal power to accomplish what they cannot do in state capitols - i.e., criminalize gun carry in the public and non-sterile areas of airports.
The vast majority of state legislatures support the right to carry handguns in public, including the non-sterile areas of airports. Any effort to reverse these state law decisions by way of the federal bureaucracy insults federalism and the right to bear arms.
According to the Supreme Court in the Heller decision the right to keep and bear arms is an individual right and, “[a]t the time of the founding, as now, to ‘bear’ meant to “’carry.’”
Please ensure the TSA stays out of gun ban politics in Atlanta and across the Unites States!
Sincerely,

PLATFORM CONFIRMS DEMS STILL ‘DON’T GET IT’ ABOUT GUN RIGHTS, SAYS CCRKBA
BELLEVUE, WA – The 2008 Democratic Party’s draft platform confirms that the party still “doesn’t get it” about Second Amendment gun rights versus the Utopian fantasy that gun control laws will somehow make neighborhoods safer, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.
“While promising to preserve our Second Amendment rights,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “the party platform demonizes semiautomatic sport utility rifles and wants them banned, calls for anti-gun show legislation and proposes so-called ‘common-sense’ gun laws. Many Democrats believe bans on most guns are ‘common sense’ and they still support the handgun ban in Barack Obama’s hometown of Chicago. Boiled down, all it really means is that the Democrats are still the party of gun control no matter how they try to re-package the rhetoric, and they know it.”
Gottlieb, co-author of a new book called These Dogs Don’t Hunt: The Democrats’ War on Guns, said the party is shamelessly telling American gun owners that they embrace the rights of millions of shooters, hunters and gun collectors, “but there’s a caveat.”
“The party’s gun control platform plank puts the lie to everything they say,” he added. “As Democrats descend on Denver to nominate a candidate who is on record in opposition to sensible concealed carry laws, we encourage gun owners across the country, and especially in Colorado, to remind the party that the Supreme Court in June held that gun bans are unconstitutional. Yet here they are, calling for a ban on so-called ‘assault weapons’ even after years of experience tells us that Bill Clinton’s ban accomplished nothing, and cost the party control of Congress in 1994.
“Democrats want to regulate gun shows out of business,” he continued, “even after a study done for the Justice Department found that gun shows are rarely the source of firearms used by criminals. Gun shows provide a forum, a gathering place for law-abiding gun owners to discuss ideas and issues, and share constitutionally protected freedoms of speech, assembly and the right to keep and bear arms. Increasingly, Democrats seem averse to the exercise of these rights by anyone who does not share their philosophy. And this is the party of inclusion?
“Democrats have an opportunity to reject and repudiate this platform,” Gottlieb concluded. “If they do not, that tells American gun owners everything they need to know about Democrats as November approaches.”

Heller Under The Microscope
In the weeks since the Heller decision affirmed our rights under the 2nd Amendment it seems every gun policy in the country is under the microscope and for as much good as Heller did, there seem to be an untold number of government agencies and bureaucrats who are intent on doing every thing they can to circumvent the 2nd Amendment by trying to lawyer their way around the intent of our Founding Fathers. Of course it’s the same tired argument, that they are trying to make us safer when in fact, they are making the majority of us less safe and they are only making criminals and potential terrorist safer.
According to a USA Today article, the Transportation Security Administration is “reviewing” the laws that allow firearms to be lawfully carried in unsecured areas at airports. Now when has this been a problem? Do these people really think they are making us safer from criminals or terrorist by passing a feel-good law that disarms the citizens?
The article quotes Alan Black, public safety chief at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport as saying, “I don’t really like the idea of people coming here with weapons and carrying them into terminals, but that’s their right as citizens of the state of Texas.” Black notes that it is a “right” so I guess TSA is going to see what they can do to infringe on our rights because guys like Black don’t like people with guns. As public safety chief, he sure won’t lose his rights, only we do.
Time to start calling the elected officials.
On a more positive note — an aide to media darling, Hussein O., resigned on Monday after it was learned he had ties to a radical Islamic Imam. I guess it wouldn’t have sent a very good message, politically, to actually fire someone with ties to radical Islamic extremists. How about subjecting political aides to the same background investigations that handgun owners have to endure — oh wait, there are no handgun owners in Chicago. I feel safer already.

by Gary Smith
Just to show how twisted the anti-hunting community is, the youngster — Jamison Stone, who killed the 1,000 pound hog in May 2007, is still receiving death threats and there is a group trying to have those involved in the hunt prosecuted for animal cruelty.
Fox News reported this today, that there was an online petition going around with 800 signatures on it calling for prosecution. (Fortunately 800 signatures online doesn’t amount to a fart in a whirlwind.)
Rhonda Roland Shearer, a New York City shrill who investigated the incident, no doubt with her mind already made up on the results, called the 500 S&W a low velocity weapon. Of course, if this gun had been used in a crime the anti-gun crowd would have called it a massively powered handgun that no one needs to own for any purpose… Don’t believe it, yesterday the Brady Campaign called a Remington model 48 an “assault shotgun”. Never mind that they also reported it was commonly used for bird hunting and it didn’t even have the plug removed when the crime was committed (which they didn’t report).
I don’t blame a lot of people for not wanting to read about all of the foolish gun laws being pushed and passed — I can’t decide if it’s just too depressing or too angering. In any case there are a lot of hunters in this country that had better wake up, start voting and start writing letters to your elected officials. Since Heller the hysteria of the anti-gun bunch is reaching a fever pitch.

by Gary Smith (from the NSSF)
On July 4, National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane sent presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) a letter asking whether he still believes his hometown of Chicago can ban law-abiding citizens their Second Amendment right to own firearms, including handguns, in their homes. The NSSF letter followed the landmark ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court affirming that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms. To date, NSSF has not received a response from Sen. Obama or his campaign. As Sen. Obama continues to dodge questions related to the Second Amendment, the senator’s hometown of Chicago is continuing to enforce their unconstitutional gun ban and Washington, D.C., is attempting to circumvent the Supreme Court decision — a move which has led to another lawsuit against the Capitol City. I wonder what bHusseinO doesn’t want to admit? Sorry dude — we already have your number…
